Inter-Library Loan Information

Borrowing From Other Libraries

Can't find a book or an article? Ask us. We'll try to borrow it for you from another library. The Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service is a national network of libraries that share information and materials, for a lifetime of reading pleasure and intellectual pursuits. ILL can be requested for any type of library material except videos, DVDs, CDs, new books, textbooks, and books we have on order.

Inter-Library Loan Guidelines

  • You must be an adult with a valid Hampton Public Library card in good standing.
  • Submit the ILL Request Form online, or print the form (PDF) and take it to any Hampton Public Library location. (Sorry, we cannot take ILL requests by phone.)
  • A maximum of five requests may be active at a time.
  • ILL materials may not be renewed, and are subject to immediate recall by the lending library at any time.
  • We must comply with copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code).
  • The ILL late fee is $0.50 per day per item.
  • Any additional use fees to which the borrower agrees must be paid by check or money order, payable to the lending library.
  • A second request for the same material may not be placed for six months.
