Hampton's Neighborhood Commission provides leadership, guidance, and support to the Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative thereby creating healthy neighborhoods where everyone can realize their full potential for a better quality of life. The Neighborhood Commission performs the following functions:
Brokers and secures resources for neighborhoods
Establishes policies with respect to the Hampton Neighborhood Initiative
Expands participation in the Hampton Neighborhood Initiative
Expands the capacity of neighborhoods to help themselves and others
Maintains a vital and dynamic relationship with neighborhoods
Provides oversight and evaluation of the Hampton Neighborhood Initiative
Serves as a representative body to an for neighborhoods
Serves as an advisory board regarding city policy and issues that impact neighborhood issues
Serves as the voice for neighborhoods in the negotiation and resolution of neighborhood issues
Members
Members of the commission serve four-year terms, except for city and at-large representatives who serve two-year terms. There are 21 total members made up of:
10 neighborhood commissioners (see map (PDF) of neighborhood districts)
11 other representatives include:
3 institutional representatives
1 business representative
1 faith-based representative
1 non-profit representative
1 school representative
2 at-large representatives
1 realtor representative
1 public relations representative
2 youth representatives
3 City representatives (plus city staff support)

Agendas are available prior to the meetings. Minutes are also available following approval.
Apply to be on the Neighborhood Commission. Neighborhood representatives go through a neighborhood based nominating process prior to names being forwarded to the Neighborhood Commission and City Council.
