Office 365 Deployment

We are happy to inform you that Information Technology Department (IT) will be upgrading the City's email system to Office 365 over the next few months. Some of the benefits of this upgrade are:

  • Mailbox size (quota) will increase from 150mb to 25 GB. This is almost a 200-fold increase in capacity.
  • The web interface (Netmail) will be significantly improved.
  • Our email service will be hosted in Microsoft's robust data center infrastructure providing a higher level of availability.

Outlook Web Access

In order to access the new email system (Office 365) there are a few things that you need to be aware of:

  1. Your current email and outlook client on your desktop will not change. The look and feel will be the same, only your mail will be stored at Microsoft's data center instead of the City data center.
  2. Your email address will not change.
  3. Your password will not change.
  4. If you are using a PC with Office 2003 or an earlier version, your PC must be upgraded to Office 2007 or 2010. Support for Office 2003 and earlier versions are being phased out by Microsoft. IT is currently identifying PC's that do not meet the minimum requirements and will discuss options with those departments over the next two months.
  5. The web mail client has been significantly improved and offers the same functionality as the Office 2010/2011 Outlook mail client.
