The Hampton Military Affairs Committee's goal is to maintain a strong, healthy, and cooperative relationship between the city and its local military facilities, members of the Armed Forces, military families, and our veterans. This includes those active duty, prior service, and retired military personnel residing in Hampton and/or serving at Langley AFB, the VA Medical Center, and military installations in greater Hampton Roads. This collaborative relationship is accomplished through information sharing, special events, identification of important resources and opportunities and other forms of civic partnership.
Choose Hampton: a Military Friendly Community
The Hampton Military Affairs Committee is the first MAC in Hampton Roads. Its mission is reflective of Hampton's commitment to our military, our veterans, and their families. Comprised of community-minded professionals and volunteers, MAC members bring a depth of experience working with veteran and active duty military communities. Our efforts are made possible by the strong support of elected and appointed officials of the City.
As the first English-speaking settlement in America, the character of Hampton has been molded by its rich history and engaged citizenry. But it has been equally influenced by the presence of its large active-duty military and veteran communities. The 2000 U.S. Census revealed that Hampton has the greatest concentration of veterans in the adult civilian population - 27.1% - of any American city with a population greater than 100,000.
