Dealing with youth

  • Be a guide for your children or other young people in the community. Offer to help with homework, or volunteer.
  • Set clear boundaries.
  • Be flexible as your child grows; adjust the rules appropriately.
  • Be proactive if you notice a change in your child's behavior.
  • Listen without interruption.
  • Never be afraid to ask where your children are going and who they are spending time with.
  • If a negative incident occurs, use the moment to support growth. Avoid responding harshly.
  • In good and bad times, let your children know how much you care in every situation. Tough times occur in every household.
