Library Volunteer Opportunities

The Hampton Public Library seeks volunteers to assist with all aspects of the library, its programs and services. Volunteers generally help with library administrative tasks and programs. Full volunteer job descriptions

Peninsula Reads Volunteer

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the books and general management of the computer labs in the Peninsula Reads Room. They also help patrons who are there for the Adult Basic Education Programs. Apply as a Peninsula Reads volunteer.

Friends of the Hampton Public Library Volunteer

This position helps the Friends of the Library with the seasonal book sales. They help by sorting and packing books in boxes to be sold to benefit the Hampton Public Libraries. 

Special Collections & Genealogy Volunteers / 
Digital History Project Volunteers

This position will help transcribe historical documents during special events. They’re responsible for transcription on a variety of platforms, e.g., Project Unknown No More.

Reference Volunteer

This position helps the Reference staff in a variety of capacities. Whether it’s through helping other patrons locate materials in the library, shelving books, shelf-reading and straightening to make things look more neat and presentable, assisting others using the computer, to even helping out with programs and other general tasks.

Teen Volunteers

Young volunteers must be between the ages of 13 and 18. These volunteers will help the Children’s Department at the Main Library location at 4207 Victoria Blvd. or if they prefer, the Willow Oaks Branch Library location at 227 Fox Hill Road, Suite B-10. Teens are mostly needed during the summer for help with our programs, but they also perform shelving, straightening, and other library duties.
