Resilient And Innovative Neighbor grant program

The City of Hampton and Chesapeake Bay Foundation have partnered to create a new Resilient And Innovative Neighbor (RAIN) pilot grant program. With the help of Hampton residents like you, we can reduce flooding in the City of Hampton, improve Chesapeake Bay Foundation Logowaterways of the Chesapeake Bay, and help protect property and downstream neighbors.

If you are selected to be part of the program, you can be reimbursed up to $1,000 when you plant a tree, install a rain barrel, replace an area of mowed lawn with a rain garden, or use special pavers in place of an existing driveway or walkway on your property. The reimbursement is supported by a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

This is an opportunity for you to reinvest in your property and make a big difference in our Resilient Hampton effort!

You can get more information about the RAIN Actions and options by viewing the workshop PDF and video facilitated by the City of Hampton and the CBF. Look for information about future workshops here.

The Resilient And Innovative Neighbor grant program is one of several pilot projects being implemented from the Newmarket Creek Water Plan as the second phase of the city’s broader Resilient Hampton initiative to address flooding issues with solutions that achieve multiple community benefits.  Since much of the watershed consists of single-family homes, RAIN grants incentivize Hampton’s residents to take specific actions to reduce stormwater runoff from their properties while enhancing the property.  If successful, this initial pilot program will be expanded to more of your neighbors.  Let’s work together to reduce stormwater runoff and flooding while increasing the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
