Resilient Hampton’s Projects and Programs follow the living with water approach. We treat water resources as important assets to embrace for our city’s resilient future.
Newmarket Creek Pilot Projects
The City of Hampton is implementing three projects identified in the Newmarket Creek Water Plan: the Big Bethel Blueway, the North Armistead Avenue Road Raising and Green Infrastructure, and Lake Hampton. On Dec. 2, 2021, staff and consultants held a virtual public outreach event to share details on the project designs.
The LaSalle Avenue Corridor Resiliency Plan is a joint roadway study undertaken by the City of Hampton and Langley Air Force Base. It was completed in late 2021 with Department of Defense grant funding.
The Lake Hampton and North Armistead Avenue projects will work together to reduce multiple sources of flooding that impact a key roadway, while creating new recreational amenities, walking and biking trails.
Identified in the Newmarket Creek Water Plan, the Billy Woods Canal project will transform an existing drainage canal into an innovative stormwater storage facility and public green space.
The Green Infrastructure Center (GIC), Clean Energy Solutions Inc. (CESI), and Virginia PACE Authority (VPA) are partnering with Resilient Hampton to create new tools for community flood mitigation by addressing the needs for energy assurance, stormwater and flooding reductions, and financing options for resilient design strategy implementation.
