Duties

The Hampton Police Division has police chaplains available to assist the officers in the performance of his or her duty, upon request, within legal bounds. Hampton Police Division’s chaplains have many roles within the division. They are available to assist in training, to assist in public relations as needed and to provide invocations when desired. They attend periodic roll-calls, participate in ride-a-longs, and are notified when any officer is injured, experiences a prolonged illness or is hospitalized. Chaplains also offer their services to officers involved in cases of suicide, homicide, death notifications, fatal accidents, major disasters, and any other situation in which the presence of a chaplain may be requested. The intent of the police chaplain program is to provide an outreach of the church’s ministry through volunteer chaplains whose mission is to address the needs of police officers by providing a listening ear, supportive presence, individual counseling or effective referral.
