Keep Hampton Green

Keep Hampton GreenBackground

In 1984, the Hampton Clean City Commission (HCCC) implemented Keep Hampton Green, which is designed to raise and use donations for landscaping improvements along major city thoroughfares and in public areas. The commission welcomes donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, clubs, churches and synagogues to support and maintain Keep Hampton Green.

Selecting & Planting Trees & Shrubbery

The trees and shrubs selected for planting are mostly native and disease-resistant varieties that are appropriate for growth in Hampton. The kinds that are purchased are determined by the cost, availability, and site location.

Planting sites are selected by the HCCC with the assistance of the Parks & Recreation Department. The plantings are done in the spring and/or fall based on weather conditions, and the season that is best suited for the particular types of trees and shrubbery. The Parks Division supervises the planting and maintenance.

Making a Donation

The HCCC accepts any donations for Keep Hampton Green. In particular, the commission accepts donations in memory of a loved one. It also accepts donations to honor someone special or for a birthday, Mother's Day, or Father's Day. A donation may be made to honor an individual's valuable service to the community or organization. Donations may also be made to commemorate anniversaries, reunions, graduations, promotions, retirements and other special occasions. Donations can be made by check payable to Hampton City Treasurer Keep Hampton Green and sent to the HCCC at:
1296 Thomas Street
Hampton, VA 23669

HCCC notifies the recipient or the recipient's family of the donation by letter as soon as the contribution is received. The commission also sends the donor a thank you letter for the contribution. The letter serves as a verification of the donation for tax purposes.
