The Hampton Clean and Green Workplaces Committee was established to encourage the workplace sector of the community to participate in keeping Hampton clean and green. The committee draws membership from a variety of types of businesses, agencies, and commercial organizations to gain representation from a broad cross-section of the commercial and governmental agencies sectors.
The committee sponsors two primary programs that support its purpose:
The Hampton Clean and Green Workplaces Award Program recognizes Hampton workplaces that keep clean and attractive grounds, establish in-house recycling programs, and contribute to greening Hampton.
The Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum, cosponsored with James City County, Newport News, and York County, provides a quarterly platform for bringing together workplaces from all over the Peninsula to learn about programs, legislation, and other initiatives that contribute to the environmental health of our region and to recognize workplaces from all over the Peninsula for their clean community efforts.
In addition to these primary programs, the committee:
Surveys businesses and governmental agencies to identify challenges they face in their green efforts
Seeks to educate businesses about sound environmental management practices
Advises businesses on steps to be take to green the workplaces
