City Manager's Message 7/9/15: Happy 405th Birthday City of Hampton, and Happy New Fiscal Year!

Posted on July 10, 2015 at 8:10 AM by Mary Bunting

As this is the beginning of our budget year, I wanted to remind you that all employees will receive a 3% general wage increase in the paycheck in your bank accounts tomorrow (Friday). For full-time employees, tomorrow's pay is for the period of June 27-July 10. For part-time and WAE employees, tomorrow's pay is for the period of June 20-July 3.

As I shared with you during the FY16 budget process, meaningful salary adjustments for our workforce was Council's and my top priority. This is the first step in a multi-phase approach to address employee salaries. The next step is to implement new salary schedules effective January, 2016. The consultants doing our pay study are scheduled to meet with the department heads over the summer to address any outstanding questions needed to finalize recommendations. They will return in the fall to present their recommendations to City Council, and this information will be available to you as well. City Council has already approved $1 million to implement the new salary schedules and any adjustments to salaries that fall below the new minimums. In July, 2016, we will address compression issues along with another general wage increase.

The fiscal outlook continues to improve and I'm so pleased that we've reached the first milestone in addressing employee compensation. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to providing you with additional updates as we move toward the next phase in the process!

Mary
