City Manager's Message: 8-3-2020: Public facilities closed Tuesday for storm

Posted on August 3, 2020 at 5:07 PM by Don Mann

Due to the potential impacts of Tropical Storm Isaias, all city facilities will be closed to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 4. We are expecting significant wind and rainfall beginning late tonight and into Tuesday morning.  Predictions from the National Weather Service indicate that the majority of the storm will have passed through Hampton by midday; however, recognizing that the strong winds may cause lost power and downed trees throughout the city and in the abundance of caution, we are going to keep the facilities closed for the day.

Employees who are essential as it relates to the storm will receive instruction from their supervisor on when and where to report to work. Non-essential employees should not report to their work location. Human Resources will separately send out a communication for how to manage this day off in the Kronos timekeeping system as well as addressing other questions you might have about the time off.

Employees are encouraged to call 311 (within Hampton city limits) or 757-727-8311, check the city’s website, hampton.gov, and monitor local television and radio stations for the most up-to-date information.

Please take whatever steps are necessary to protect your homes and families, and please be sure to check on your neighbors who may need assistance in preparing for the storm. As always, your safety is of the utmost importance to us. Be safe!
