  2. Langley Speedway: Hampton Heat

    July 24, 2021, 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM @ Langley Speedway

    The Hampton Heat, the largest race of the year in Hampton Roads, returns to Larry King Law's Langley Speedway on Saturday, July 24. The speedway and the Hampton Convention & Visitor's Bureau are offering a limited number of free admission tickets to Hampton residents on a first-come, first-served basis. The limit is two per household. The free tickets are available Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Hampton Visitor Center, 120 Old Hampton Lane. Regular admission fees for the Heat are $20 for adults, $18 for active or retired military and senior citizens 60 and over, and $7 for children ages 6-12. It's free for children 5 and under.

  1. Polishing Your Presentation Skills (Day 1) -- For City Employees

    July 29, 2021, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ In-person TBA

    This workshop will teach participants the basics of organizing and delivering an effective presentation while overcoming public-speaking jitters. The two-part session will be held Thursday, July 29, and Tuesday, Aug. 3. Facilitated by a member of the Human Resources Department, you will learn how to present information to a group, in a team meeting or in a formal setting. In this small group class, participants will make two 3-5-minute speeches on Day 1 and a videotaped presentation on Day 2. Registration for both days is required to obtain full credit and the full benefit of the workshop. Please contact hrtrain@hampton.gov for registration information or if you have any questions.

Fort Monroe Community Center Pool

    The swimming pool at Fort Monroe has been closed until further notice because of a heater malfunction. Lap swimming for residents has been moved to the Hampton Aquatic Center, 300 Butler Farm Road. Lap swimming will be open by appointment only Monday-Thursday, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Swimming lanes can be reserved for one hour, starting 24 hours in advance.

  1. Hampton Carousel

    After being closed for over a year due to the pandemic, the Hampton Carousel opens for the 2021 season on June 1 with COVID protocols. Located in Carousel Park and operated by the Hampton History Museum, the former Buckroe Beach carousel is one of the City of Hampton’s most treasured historic assets. Built in 1920, the carousel is completely restored to its original beauty and housed in its own weather-protected pavilion at Carousel Park on the city’s downtown waterfront. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still existing in the U.S. Hand crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, Hampton's Carousel is a whirling tribute to the skill of its creators. The Hampton Carousel will operate under federal, state and City of Hampton COVID-19 protocols. Guests will be required to wear masks when inside the carousel building, practice social distancing, and use hand-sanitizer before and after rides.

    In celebration of National Carousel Day the Hampton History Museum will offer free rides on the Hampton Carousel, and complimentary Hampton Carousel 100th Anniversary commemorative coins. Built in 1920, the carousel is completely restored to its original beauty and housed in its own weather-protected pavilion at Carousel Park on the city’s downtown waterfront. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still existing in the U.S. Hand crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, Hampton's Carousel is a whirling tribute to the skill of its creators. While supplies last, each guest will receive a colorful commemorative coin that was specially minted to celebrate the carousel’s 100th Anniversary in 2020. The coins are presented courtesy of the Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau.
