STEM Saturday — Black History Celebration

Saturday, February 1, 2020

This STEM Saturday is all about celebrating the black men and women that have shaped modern science. These wide-ranging activities will bring out the scientist in everyone. Each engaging activity is created in honor of a past or present icon in science, and everyone will have creations to take home to provide continued inspiration. Create a constellation telescope and map the sky like Benjamin Banneker; learn about the accomplishments of the first black woman in space, Mae Jemison; make a model heart like Vivien Thomas; and learn about the Tuskegee Airmen while designing a paper airplane.

Join us here at the Virginia Air & Space Center one Saturday a month as we explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with activities designed to inspire, excite, and engage the imagination. Investigate robotics, physics, chemistry, and so much more with activities focused on the theme of the day.
