[ARCHIVED] Aberdeen Gardens is the Neighborhood of the Year

March 26, 2017 - Aberdeen Gardens Histroic & Civic Association recently received the Neighborhood of the Year Award from Hampton’s Neighborhood Commission for the group’s inclusiveness, communication, support and continuous improvements in Aberdeen Gardens. The Buckroe Improvement League received the Michael J. Canty award for their Lighthouse Holiday Illumination Gathering Project, which brought several hundred people together to create a sense of community and partnership in Buckroe. And Deena Franklin received the Mary B. Johnson Award for Leadership for her outstanding commitment to the community. The Neighborhood Commission said Franklin exemplified the characteristics of great leadership and has made a significant impact as president of the Do-Gooders of Hampton Roads. The Neighborhood Commission provides leadership, policy guidance, support and a voice for Hampton’s diverse communities. It focuses on maintaining and enhancing neighborhood quality and making sure neighborhoods, schools and the city have a strong partnership.
