Congratulations to Hampton’s May and June Yard of the Month winners!

May winners were: Nick & Patty Nicholas (Springdale Way), Dorothy Woolard (Hankins Drive), and Charles & Celestine Johnson (Pocahontas Place).

June winners were: Martha Keith (Alleghany Road), Ronald & Moni Owens (Bellview Terrace), and Benjamin Artis (Longwood Place).

These Hampton residents have exemplary sustainable landscapes filled with beauty.

Are you puzzled because you don’t see your yard listed here? Or perhaps your neighbors’ yards? That’s because you haven’t been nominated! Go to http://hampton.gov/FormCenter/Hampton-Boards-Commissions--Committees-5/YARDS-Contest-Nomination-Form-53 and nominate your favorite yard(s)! You’re welcome to nominate your own yard or another’s yard!

The basic points the volunteer judges look for in a YARDS Contestant are: curb appeal, selection of native and sustainable plants, good design in terms of planting layout, low maintenance design, evidence of conservation measures (energy, water, and other resources), use of best management landscape practices, and special features that give personality and character to the landscape.
