[ARCHIVED] Choose Hampton: Celebrate city's birthday with a carousel ride

July 6, 2015 - Celebrate Hampton's 405th birthday with a free ride on the city's historic carousel on Thursday, July 9, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Hot dogs and ice cream available for purchase.

Built at Buckroe Beach in 1920, the carousel is one of only about 100 antique wooden merry-go-rounds in the U.S. It was put in storage in the mid-1980s and moved downtown and restored in 1991.

Now managed by the Hampton History Museum, the carousel is located at 602 Settlers Landing Rd. Regular hours are Tuesday - Sunday, 11 am – 8 pm. It's closed Monday. Rides are $1 each. Tickets are on sale at the Hampton History Museum and at the Carousel. Call 757-727-1610 for more information.
