[ARCHIVED] Commissioner of the revenue receives award of excellence

Sept. 25, 2015 - Ross A. Mugler, Hampton's Commissioner of Revenue, received the Sam T. Barfield Award of Excellence this week at the annual conference of the Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia.

Barfield was a longtime commissioner of revenue for the City of Norfolk who was known for being independent and highly principled. The Barfield Award is given each year to a commissioner who has demonstrated excellence, given their time by working on behalf of the Association, or contributed to the professional of the Association over a long period of time.

Mugler is a Hampton native who has devoted his life to public service. Commissioner of the Revenue since 1992, he a certified master commissioner and immediate past president of the Commissioners of the Revenue Association.

Mugler has also served on the board of directors for the Virginia Air and Space Center and the Hampton City Schools Foundatio, as president of the Thomas Nelson Community College Education Foundation, and president of the Hampton Arts Foundation.
