[ARCHIVED] Heavy band of rain expected

The city is still under a storm warning and will be under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. and a flood watch until midnight. Conditions are expected to improve as Andrea moves out of the area between 9-10 p.m. Friday.

The weakening storm has produced several tornadoes so far, so residents are encouraged to stay alert.

The National Weather Service at Wakefield said the area will get 2-4 inches of rain during the course of the storm, with sustained winds Friday of 20 mph and gusts ranging from 25-30 mph.

Forecasters said tidal flooding should not be an issue, but the city will experience ponding or flooding on roads. As Andrea sweeps through the area, city departments and offices remain watchful.

Hampton’s Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the storm.
