[ARCHIVED] Celebrate the service, sacrifice of military children

March 14, 2016 - Dr. Seuss will be the theme on April 9 when Hampton's Military Affairs Committee joins other sponors of the annual Celebration of the Military Child - honoring local military children for their service, sacrifice and strength of character.

The celebration will take place Saturday, April 9, from 11a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. A number of child-friendly activities, including a bounce house, rock wall and carnival midway, will be available. Community information and resources for military families will also be available. The event is free of charge. All service members (active-duty and retired) and their family and friends are welcome.

"The Month of the Military Child" was established in 1986 to recognize the contributions military children make as their parent or parents serve the nation. The City of Hampton and state of Virginia have both adopted resolutions naming April "The Month of the Military Child."

Sponsors of the April 9 event - "Little Heroes at Home - Celebration of the Military Child" - include the Military Affairs Committee, Military Newspapers of Virginia, and McDonald's of Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina.
