[ARCHIVED] Youth violence prevention follow-up

To the concerned and involved community who attended the recent town hall meeting to address youth violence,

Thank you for attending the Call to Action Community Speak Out that was convened on June 1 by Councilman Will Moffett.

We need help from everyone to ensure that our young people live safe and productive lives, and value your suggestions for addressing the problem of youth violence.

We are now looking at comments you made so we can identify over-arching themes and decide how to make an immediate impact on the community. Many of you signed up as volunteers and told us you wanted to be on a community-based action coalition. Within the next two weeks, we will appoint a coalition of citizens of all ages to work towards reducing youth violence in Hampton.

Our first community event - focused on bringing young people together - will take place in 4-7 weeks.

We realize this is a long-term effort and need your help. Please visit www.hampton.gov or call 311 (757-727-8311 from a cell phone) to sign up as a volunteer and get additional information.

On behalf of Mayor Molly Joseph Ward and the entire Hampton City Council, thank you for offering to help address the serious issue of youth violence. Remember, together we can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Steven L. Brown
Chair, Community Based Coalition

Vice-Chair
