[ARCHIVED] Walk Hampton Clean was a big success

May 4, 2016 - Despite some rain, 741 volunteers walked 104,066 miles and collected 301 bags of litter April 22-23 as part of "Walk Hampton Clean." They also picked up 16,843 cigarette butts from 57 streets, keeping them from polluting area waterways.

Walk Hampton Clean was designed to get as many volunteers as possible out in the community walking city streets and picking up debris as they went. Their results were reported to the Hampton Clean City Commission.

A number of community groups - like students from Tucker Capps Elementary School, above - took part in "Walk Hampton Clean." Others included the Buckroe Improvement League, Downtown Hampton Exchange Club, and members of the United States Air Force and the 10th Intelligence Squadron at Langley Air Force Base.
