July 25, 2016 - Hampton was ranked the 3rd safest city in Virginia, based on FBI and Census data by the website Niche.com.
Nationally, Hampton ranked 53rd, Virginia Beach was 25th, and Alexandria was 29th.
According to the site, the 2016 Safest Cities ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall safety at the city level. This grade takes into account key indicators of a location’s safety, including violent and property crime rates, in an attempt to measure an area’s safety and security. See details at
Niche also rates cities overall, and gives Hampton a B+, with above-average scores for diversity, education level, family amenities, outdoor activities, short commute, nightlife, and weather. Niche offers a combination of user reviews and data, ranking places to live, school systems and colleges.
