Sept. 21, 2016 - The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a coastal flood advisory in Hampton today from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Although the rain is expected to taper off later this afternoon, heavy bands of rain are expected to continue moving through the area throughout the day.

Minor tidal flooding is expected to occur this afternoon during high tide - about 1:30 p.m. The forecasted tide level is 4.7 ft., and minor flooding generally starts at 4.5 ft. Low-lying areas could see some road closures and property flooding.

Hampton's Emergency Management Office said that a coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds, wave action and/or tides will combine to create the flooding of low-lying areas along the shore and near tidal rivers and creeks.

Residents in those areas are encouraged to be prepared and to avoid driving through flood waters. Emergency Management will continue to monitor the weather and update residents.
