[ARCHIVED] Tips and reminders for the 4th of July weekend

If you want to celebrate the 4th at home, remember that all fireworks - except sparklers - are illegal in Hampton, and bringing unapproved fireworks into the city is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

If you want to go out, There are a number of public fireworks displays in Hampton Roads, including:

  • Tonight after the Peninsula Pilots' 7:05 p.m. home game at War Memorial Stadium. Admission to the game is $5, with discounts for children and seniors; active-duty military are free.
  • Tomorrow at Fort Monroe starting at 9:30 p.m., sponsored by the Fort Monroe Foundation. Entrance to the fort will be closed at 9 p.m. The fireworks will last about 15 minutes. For more information, go to the Fort Monroe Authority website.
  • Friday at Langley Speedway following racing. Admission is $10 for adults, with discounts for children, seniors and military. Racing begins at 7 p.m.
And if you plan on attending the fireworks at Fort Monroe, there are a number of road closures leading up to the 9:30 p.m. start. You can get more information from the Hampton police or the Fort Monroe Authority
