[ARCHIVED] Neighborhoods: Join us for holiday decorating competition to benefit students

Nov. 8, 2016 - Registered neighborhood organizations are invited to join a friendly competition to decorate community centers for the holidays -- and benefit local students.
Organizations will be given 10 decorative lighted balls and a location as close to their district as possible. After that, they can apply some creativity. The contest will be fore exterior decorations, including windows visible from outside.
Applications should be submitted by Nov. 21, with decorating taking place between by Dec. 2. Winners will be announced at the Holly Days parade Saturday, Dec. 10.
First place winners will receive free passes to "Operation North Pole," festivities in Carousel Park downtown. But the main prizes will be given in the organization's name to Hampton City Schools students as follows:
1st prize: Five scholarships to attend the city's “Operation Winter Break” day camp.
2nd prize: Five gift certificates for swim classes; and
3rd prize: Five gift certificates for annual Parks & Rec memberships.
Hampton's Parks, Recreation & Leisure staff will select deserving students.
