Nov. 23, 2016 -  Hampton officials are currently planning the 2017 “Urgency of Now” symposium,  and they want to hear your ideas on what’s most important as they look to continue building a stronger and safer community.

The first symposium, in February of 2016, was entitled: “Urgency of Now: Changing the Narrative for Black Males from Failure to Hope.” It brought together local and regional leaders, community members and others - including area teenagers - to talk about the region’s problems and ways to build a stronger and safer community. The 2016 symposium offered peer-to-peer learning, guest speakers and national experts. It included an evening session that was open to the public and a community resource fair designed to make young people aware of the resources available to them.

The planning committee for the 2017 symposium - elected officials, city representatives and community members - want to hear from both teens and adults so they can better address Hampton’s current needs. There are two very short surveys available, one for adults at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NPTG58W. And another for young people at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/N5J9Z7C. Both surveys are scheduled to close Friday, Dec. 2.

The 2017 will be held in late winter.
