hrbt

Dec. 1, 2016  -The Virginia Department of Transportation will conduct routine tide gate testing at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel beginning at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, to ensure facilities are prepared for possible adverse weather conditions.

Motorists traveling to the HRBT during testing can expect to be stopped for up to one hour in each direction. Crews will first test the gates eastbound and then test the gates westbound. Full directional closures are as follows:

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel

  • 2 a.m. until 3 a.m. – All eastbound traffic will be stopped.
  • 3 a.m. until 4 a.m. – All westbound traffic will be stopped.

To avoid delays, motorists are encouraged to use the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route. VDOT attempts to schedule work when traffic volumes are lower, to reduce impacts to motorists.
