Dec. 29, 2016 - Over the holidays, many of us may have valuable new gifts such as televisions, computers, laptops, cellphones, handbags, and perhaps even a new vehicle.  Hampton police encourage you to keep your receipts, inventory your belongings, and keep that information in a safe place.  A free program called ReportIt can make that job a little easier.

ReportIt allows for the secure storage of serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures of any property, and scans of receipts so that property may be more easily identified in the event of theft or loss, police said. If you are the victim of a theft or burglary, you can  print your complete property list from your ReportIt account and give it to  law enforcement and your insurance company. 

• ReportIt is completely internet-based, so you never have to worry about losing the data you have saved. 
• ReportIt is free and available to residents in jurisdiction that are served by LeadsOnline, a web-based investigation service that works with police in Hampton and neighboring communities. Each account may store up to 100 items; however if you need additional storage, you can email citizen@leadsonline.com.  
• Corporate and small business accounts are available upon request.
• ReportIt is secure. The information is password protected and is accessed by the same type of connection used when you access your bank account online.  The information entered is also protected by the same high-level security measures that are used by financial institutions and government agencies.
• ReportIt will store information about anything of value (collectibles, jewelry, electronics, machinery, lawn equipment, designer clothes and handbags)
• The police are not able to search your information in ReportIt.  Your information can only be accessed using your username and password.  Should your property go missing, you can print the information from any computer with internet access.
