Jan. 4, 2017 - The forecasts calls for snow this weekend - anywhere from an inch to several inches. And Hampton’s Public Works Department, which has responsibility for snow removal on primary roadways, bridges and municipal property, is ready.

Public Works has been preparing for this winter's snow for more than two months. More than 200 employees have been cross-training so they can operate different pieces of equipment, including snow plows, salt spreaders, brine units, motor graders, front end loaders and more. Public Works currently has 1400 tons of salt, 15,000 gallons of brine (liquid salt solution) and 5000 gallons of calcium chloride.

Our snow removal equipment and supplies, including salt and brine, are at full capacity. And the Public Works staff, working closely with Hampton Police, Parks, Recreation and Leisure, and various other departments, will be on alert Friday and throughout the weekend.

Public Works is prepared to start winter weather treatment on Friday afternoon by pretreating bridges  and overpasses, and to continue maintaining primary roadways.
