[ARCHIVED] Hampton Historic Post Office Transformed into Wedding & Event Venue

Jan. 10, 2016 - The Historic Post Office opened its doors to the public once again on Thursday, Jan. 5. The grand opening drew more than 400 guests who marveled at the renovated multi-use event space.

Built in 1914 during the Beaux-Arts architectural period, the Historic Post Office served as the largest post office hub in Hampton Roads until 1986, when it was decommissioned.

Since then the location has worn many hats. It was a popular nightclub and restaurant for many years, and then in 2013 it became m2 Pictures, owned by Metro Communications. The production company used the 27,000-square-foot location as a studio to film docudramas for Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, among others, Patrick Walsh, of m2 Pictures said.

The company is no longer in need of using the entire space, Walsh said and so a decision was made to turn the space into an entertainment venue.

“The space can be used for celebration events, conferences, and weddings,” Kelsey Leeper, venue manager, said. “People are loving that there is now a beautiful venue in Hampton.”

The renovated space offers a gentleman’s lounge complete with a billiards table, a beautifully finished bridal suite for the bride and her party, a second-floor mezzanine, and a reception hall that seats 250.

The venue currently has more than 30 events booked. For more information, visit www.thehistoricpostoffice.com.
