[ARCHIVED] Plowing continues, residents urged to be careful as temperature drops

weather

Jan. 7, 2017 - The winter weather advisory for Hampton has been extended to 10 a.m. Sunday as work crews continued clearing major roads Saturday night. Residents are encouraged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.

By late  Saturday the snow had let up and Public Works crews had completed three separate passes on major roads in the city, with plans to continue working overnight.  Low temperatures of 10-15 above zero late Saturday and early Sunday, with wind chills falling to near zero, are expected to make streets especially treacherous. Hampton Police reported nearly a dozen weather-related accidents, and more than 50 disabled vehicle calls.

Winds are expected to be from the Northwest at 15-20 mph late Saturday, with gusts to 30 mph.
