Jan. 13, 2017 - Potholes - usually a byproduct of rain and snow and freezing and thawing on roadways - are back with a vengeance. While the city sends people out daily to check for and repair potholes, they can use your help. The Public Works Department urges residents to call 311 (727-8311 from your cell phone or from outside the city) to report any potholes you encounter. When you call, please include where the pothole was located, give an estimate of how big it is (width and depth)  and the type of surface it's on (usually asphalt or concrete). You can also use your computer, tablet or other electronic device to report potholes online by visiting www.hampton.gov/311. The Virginia Department of Transportation has a similar process for state roads. Residents are asked to call the state's Customer Care Center at 1-800-For-Road (1-800-367-7623) or visit http://my.vdot.virginia.gov.
