Jan. 18, 2017 - Hampton City Schools and Hampton Police are working together to add a Law and Public Safety Academy for the 2017-2018 school year at a city high school.

Veronica Hurd, director of academies for Schools,  said subjects from English to science to mathematics will be taught. Other subjects - leading towards careers in areas such as law enforcement, firefighting, policing and the military - will include criminal justice, forensic technology and public safety.

Lt. Jason Price, commander of the community engagement unit for Hampton Police and a member of the advisory committee for the academy, said: “We believe that having a Law and Public Safety Academy will improve our relationships and strengthen partnerships with Hampton youth.”
