[ARCHIVED] Teens, young adults encouraged to register for April job, financial reality fairs

March 14, 2017 - Hampton's Economic Development Department has partnered with Goodwill Community Employment Center, Peninsula Worklink and the Virginia Employment Commission to organize a job fair for youth and young adults on Friday, April 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Goodwill Community Employment Center, 1911 Saville Row, Hampton. There will also be a special Financial Reality Fair on Thursday, April 6.

The job fair is for people 16-24  and for businesses looking to hire energetic and eager individuals. You can prepare for the job fair by attending at least one of the workshop scheduled for Tuesday, April 4 or Wednesday, April 5. When you're finished, expect to have a finished resume, suitable interview skills and information on self-presentation and attire appropriate for a successful job candidate.

On Thursday, April 6, Economic Development and the Virginia Cooperative Extension will hold a Financial Reality Fair for young people from 9 a.m.-noon in the 1st floor conference room at the Ruppert L. Sargent Building, 1 Franklin St.

Select a career, get your starting salary, then learn how to make a budget. It''s all part of an interactive experience designed to help you deal with your financial life. You will also learn how to make a bank deposit, pay bills, manage credit and save for a rainy day.
