April 25, 2017 - The U.S. Small Business Administration says more than half of all Americans either own or work for a small business. You can show your support for them by recognizing April 30-May 6 as National Small Business Week.

Celebrated since 1963, Small Business Week is designed to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners and others across the country. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year, the SBA says.

“We appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into making any business a success,” says Leonard Sledge, director of Hampton’s Economic Development office. “And we know that small businesses face their own unique challenges that courageous entrepreneurs navigate through daily. Recognizing Small Business Week is an opportunity for the City of Hampton to say ‘Thank You!’ to our extraordinary small business community,” Sledge added.

To get a better understanding of the challenges and outlook for small businesses nationwide, you can sign up for one of several “webinars” that will be held by the U.S. Small Business Administration starting May 2. Topics include how to grow your business online and the future of small business innovation. Go online for more information.
