“I’m stoked to represent the 31st annual Hampton Bay Days through my design,” said Griffith. 

“As an artist, I’m always interested in incorporating an underlying idea that moves or challenges people. My artwork features a cownose ray carrying the City of Hampton on its back; an ambassador for the marine ecosystem that supports our seafood industry. I hope folks can view this and take away more than just the obvious visual narratives, namely that conservation and ecological balance are both essential to maintaining a healthy, sustainable seafood industry for the Chesapeake Bay region. Bay Days is a great opportunity for the community to get involved and spurs the conversation that reminds us we’re all stewards of nature.”

Griffith will receive $250 cash, in addition to 50-percent of the proceeds of the auctioned original work. He will also receive a complimentary booth at the festival, September 6-8, 2013, to sell other original artwork.

In 1982, Hampton Bay Days was created as a unique outlet to educate the public on the importance of the Chesapeake Bay in the Hampton Roads region, as well as the rest of Virginia and Maryland. The goal of the festival is to provide an entertaining atmosphere while ultimately serving the greater purpose of highlighting aspects of the bay and promoting its upkeep and conservation.
 
This year, the festival will take place September 6-8, 2013. About 150,000 people are expected to attend the 31st anniversary celebration in downtown Hampton. Activities include live musical entertainment, over 100 merchandise and craft vendors, a 30-minute fireworks display, bay education area, and more.
