[ARCHIVED] June 2017 Yard of the Month Winners

YARDS Collage

Announcing the June 2017 Yard of the Month winners: William Montfort (Carters Grove Court), Melanie Paul (Beauregard Heights), and Suzy Spence (Five Forks Lane).

Jamie Osso, YARDS Judge, wrote the following descriptions of their yards:

"Wow" was repeated often in the Spence’s fabulous yard! Their yard is a "show stopper." Visitors are greeted with a welcoming entryway awash with color. There were cone flowers, gardenias, crepe myrtles, and a banana tree. One of the judges commented that even the cactus garden seemed "happy." In the back, we were thrilled to see a Certified Wildlife Habitat. We didn’t want to leave either! Being surrounded by coral bells and numerous plants of various colors and textures was a pleasure for the senses. In addition, there was a greenhouse, fabulous water feature, decorative stepping stones, and a comfortable hammock which was very enticing!

The Montfort’s beautiful front yard is awash with color as well as a variety of plants with various textures and shapes. There are sunflowers and zinnias adorning the front yard as well as porch boxes with colorful plants and appropriate groundcover. Along the walkway, you notice the beautiful and fragrant gardenias as well as the lace cap hydrangeas. In the back is a river birch offering shade and a spectacular water feature. Also in the backyard was an awesome vegetable garden, Japanese maple, and many other plants and flowers which made the overall feel of their yard inviting and peaceful.

What a treat it was visiting the Paul’s fantastic yard! Their wonderful yard is a Certified Wildlife Habitat. We were greeted in the front by a majestic river birch and sweet olive. There were appropriate splashes of color in front with beautiful hydrangeas. The backyard was a treat for the senses. There were daffodils, a fig tree, day lilies of various colors, Louisiana irises, milkweed, an inviting deck, and a spectacular waterfall that flowed into a beautiful pond. It was easy to see why many birds and mammals love to visit this fabulous backyard retreat.
