June 23, 2017 – A majority of the Planning Commission did not support revisions to a $17 million project by Marlyn Development Corp. The project requested zoning for single-family residences to be located on Mallory Street on land formerly occupied by an assisted living facility. 

The original plan presented in February proposed 49 single-family homes in an R-4 zone, the city’s smallest lot size for single-family homes. Concerns about lot sizes, lack of sidewalks, among other factors contributed to the recommendation. 

The project attorney, Larry Cumming, presented revisions that addressed those concerns by now proposing 41 homes, sidewalks, and detached garages. Concerns about the lack of access for emergency vehicles contributed to the recommendation.

Several residents from nearby neighborhoods expressed concerns about flooding that the development would cause and affects the homes would have to the nearby wetlands. There were a handful of residents who supported the single-family homes, stating that it would bring their home values up.  

Planning Commission voted 4-1 against the revised plan. The revisions will go to City Council in July to review and make a final decision.
