Sept. 30, 2017 - The public is invited to an open house at NASA Langley Research Center on Saturday, Oct. 21 to celebrate the center's 100th anniversary.

Go inside Langley's gates to tour unique research facilities,  including wind tunnels, laboratories and a historic aircraft hangar. NASA says "visitors will also be able to see where pioneers from the golden age of aviation forged revolutionary ideas and where America’s original astronauts, the Mercury 7, started their training. This large-scale open house will showcase contributions past and present while also looking toward the future."

For example, today, Langley is making significant contributions to NASA’s Journey to Mars, gathering valuable data on Earth’s atmosphere and developing concepts intended to restore the capability for supersonic flight over land."

The open house will also feature lectures, and hands-on activities both indoors and outdoors. And, tere also will be a special “Kids Zone” for young explorers.

Langley  is NASA's first research facility. It was founded on July 17, 1917.
