[ARCHIVED] For The Record: Sought-after restaurants, businesses have blueprint for success

Nov. 15, 2017 - A Sky Zone indoor trampoline entertainment center is headed to Peninsula Town Center, helping to meet demand for more family entertainment. Still, city officials hear frequent requests for specific, large, sought-after chain restaurants and entertainment venues. Those businesses have a blueprint for their success: Population, income, and spending. To get their attention, Hampton needs more people earning and spending more money.

For the record, this is why the city is focused on increasing housing, to boost population; tourism, to boost visitor spending; and jobs, to boost incomes.

That’s not all. Hampton has some major advantages. We are rich in history, museums and beaches, and we’re seeing strong growth in unique, non-chain restaurants, breweries and retailers that set us apart from other places. City economic development officials and property managers will continue to regularly reach out to popular destination establishments.
