stop the violence

Feb. 12, 2018 - Can you or someone you know create a winning video against violence? “Don’t Sit in Silence, Stop the Violence” is the name of a contest for all current high school students in Hampton and Newport News that begins Monday, Feb. 12 and ends Tuesday, March 5.
The challenge is for teams of 3-5 members to create a Public Service Announcement video of 60 seconds or less that promotes ending violence in Hampton and Newport News. Prizes will be awarded for the first second and third place teams. Voting on the top three videos will take place online from Tuesday, March 6 to Thursday, March 8. Professional editing of the top three PSA’s will be completed by March 17. The videos will premiere and placement will be announced at the annual “Urgency of Now” program on March 20. Go online for PSA guidelines, the media release form, submission authorization and release form and contest questions and answers.
Urgency of Now is a two-day event that brings together dozens of local and regional leaders to talk and collaborate on action-oriented strategies for reducing violence. Urgency of Now is sponsored by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities and Cities United.
