[ARCHIVED] TNCC has summer camps available for local students interested in science, technology

May 9, 2018 - Thomas Nelson Community College has several summer camps scheduled for area students:

  • Summer Science Camp: July 23-26, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-noon, Hampton campus. It's free and open to middle school students. The camp is meant to unlock the scientist in students, with hands-on experiments. Applications due May 25.
  • LSAMP Summer Bridge Program: Aug. 6-10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Hampton campus. Minority students are invited to participate in program funded by Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Grant. The goal is to provide incoming TNCC students with resources needed to successfully start a STEM career. Tuition reimbursed upon completion of program.
  • Summer Tech Camp: July 30-Aug. 3 (half days, Monday-Friday) Historic Triangle (Williamsburg) campus. Rising 3rd through 8th-grade students are invited to learn more about how technology can shape their future. Free.
  • The Hover Games: Aug. 20-26, Peninsula Workforce Development Center. Camp is for rising 8th-11th grade students who have previously attended "imagineering." Campers will have an opportunity to build, program and fly a quadcopter. Cost: $99 per student, includes materials, lunch, snacks and field trips.
