May 11, 2018 - Hampton’s Division of Fire and Rescue this month received the “Agency of Excellence” designation from the Virginia Department of Health – Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Hampton is the first agency on the Peninsula, the second in Hampton Roads and one of only eight in the state to receive the award. It’s part of the health department’s standard of excellence program that identifies and recognizes emergency medical service agencies that strive to operate above the standards and requirements.

The program evaluates several areas, including leadership and management, emergency medical dispatch, life safety, community support, and involvement and performance and risk.

Interim Fire Chief Jason Monk said: “This would not have been possible without the dedicated men and women who strive for excellence daily. They truly embody the department’s motto of citizens first. The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue is proud of this accomplishment and what it means to our citizens.”
