GOOD TO DO & KNOW!

It’s Time for Clean the Bay Day! Every year as the temperatures rise, so does the need to remind everyone to keep our Bay clean, and that’s what Clean the Bay Day does. Not only does participating in the event actually clean the Bay, but it also raises awareness among people throughout our area. We have lots of places for you to clean up! Please sign up for Clean the Bay Day in Hampton at causink@hampton.gov.

Hampton Seafood Appreciation Tour was a great success! The seafood tour that took place on May 11 was a great first-time event, and with the cooperation of the sites visited, will be offered again (and hopefully again)! Because of the small space available for tour participants in some of the sites, Hampton Waterways Restoration Project members who planned the tour couldn’t fit in as many people as they wanted to include, but those who went were very pleased with the sites and the information. HWRP looks for offering the tour again so more people can see how important clean water is to a subject dear to our hearts, our seafood, and to our economy! HWRP has lots of interesting projects related to our waterways and their well-being. If you’re interested in being on their email list, let us know at hccc@hampton.gov.

World Environment Day, June 5: “Beat Plastic Pollution” is the theme for World Environment Day 2018. It’s a day to think about one of the great environmental challenges of our time. “The theme invites us all to consider how we can make changes in our everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife – and our own health.” How will you celebrate World Environment Day? One thing you could do is make sure you pick up at least one piece of plastic litter!

One Love CommUNITY Cleanup, May 12! Fifteen volunteers from One Love CommUNITY cleaned up their spot at River Street Park and removed four bags of trash and 350 cigarettes from the park. Those cigarettes were very important to remove because River Street Park is right on the water, and those things could have done a lot of polluting and damage to water animals. THANK YOU, One Love CommUNITY!
