[ARCHIVED] Hampton Schools Bagged Lots of Plastic (Bags)!

Trex Company's Plastic Bag/Film Challenge, School Recycling Efforts

Congratulations to the ten schools that participated in the Trex Plastic Bag/Film Challenge 2017-2018! Together they collected more than 6,000 pounds of plastic bags and film! Here are the results from Trex:

Asbury Elementary School - 2,436 lb (more than a TON!)

Hampton Christian Academy Elementary - 1,942 lb (almost a ton!)

Phenix PreK - 8 - 682 lb

Armstrong School of the Arts - 492 lb

Forrest Elementary School - 164 lb

Langley Elementary School - 118 lb

Burbank Elementary School - 87 lb

Aberdeen Elementary School - no report to Trex

Kecoughtan High School - no report to Trex

Spratley Gifted Center - no report to Trex

We look forward to 2018-2019, when we hope that at least 20 schools will participate! Not only is the competition fun, but it also serves a good purpose - it captures the equivalent of approximately 70 plastic bags per pound. So our young people kept the equivalent of 420,000 bags out of our waste and litter stream! Good job, Hampton students! And thank you to the teachers and administrators for supporting them in this effort!
