[ARCHIVED] Voters go to the polls to consider candidates for Senate, House of Representatives

June 11, 2018 - Voters go to the polls Tuesday, June 12, to consider primary candidates for the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. As long as you are in line at 7 p.m. you will be allowed to cast your vote. 

The Republicans will choose among Corey A. Steward, Nick J. Freitas and E.W. Jackson as the party’s nominee for U.S. Senate. The winner will face incumbent Sen. Timothy Kaine, who is not opposed for his party’s nomination.  For the House of Representatives: 

  • In District 3, which covers most of Hampton, Robert C. “Bobby” Scott is unopposed for the Democratic Party’s nomination for his current seat. Republicans will not hold a primary to select a candidate.
  • In District 2, which covers the northern part of the city, Republicans will choose between incumbent Rep. Scott W. Taylor and Mary K. Jones. Democrats will choose between Elaine G. Luria and Karen Powers Mallard.
