June 13, 2018 - City Council Wednesday honored its two outgoing members with resolutions commending them for their service to the citizens of Hampton.

Will Moffett, who served from 2010-2018, was noted for his involvement with Hampton's neighborhoods and outreach, including All-America City and the Reinhard Mohn projects on civic engagement. Moffett has been a recipient of the Distinguished Citizen Medal for his work co-chairing the city's 400th anniversary. 

His many board and non-profit affiliations have included: Hampton Military Affairs Committee; Hampton Military History Foundation; Hampton Roads Community Action Program; 2019 Commemorative Commission; Citizens' Engagement Advisory Review Commission; Peninsula Public Sports Facility Authority; and as Delegate to the Virginia Municipal League and National League of Cities; Hampton Federal Area Development Authority; MLK & Distinguished Citizen Commemorative Committee; and Hampton United Youth Violence Prevention Work Group.

Teresa Schmidt, who served from 2014-2018, was noted for her commitment to reducing the tax burden on citizens and for her commitment to protecting our waterways and wetlands in order to prevent erosion, reduce flooding and keep property values at a premium has been much appreciated in the community.

Her many board and non-profit affiliations have included: Planning Commission; Hampton Tourism Advisory Committee; Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions, Inc. (H.E.L.P.); Habitat for Humanity; Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee; Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads; Virginia Municipal League Environmental Quality Committee; Hampton Clean City Commission; and Hampton Federal Area Development Authority.

Two new members of Council will begin serving July 1.
