[ARCHIVED] Start with movie 'Miss Representation' then discuss diversity, unity and inclusion

July 27, 2018 — Watch the movie 'Miss Representation,' about disempowering women, on Aug. 8 at the main Hampton library, then join a talk on diversity, unity and inclusion.

The Citizens' Unity Commission and the Hampton Public Library partner for Movie Talks, opportunities for residents to engage in conversations about diversity, unity, and inclusion through movie viewings. These events create an opportunity to build new relationships, increase understanding of others, and promote mutual respect. The topics for this discussion include body image, sexism and colorism.

The event is free but space is limited. RSVP by calling 757-727-8311. Free popcorn and soft drinks will be provided. Mark your calendar.

The 2011 movie "Miss Representation" describes how women have been disempowered by mass media through a heightened focus on arbitrary standards of physical desirability.
